New EPDs for Heraklith®

Updated Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) from Knauf Insulation for Heraklith® products show impressive progress made by the company in avoiding CO2 emissions. Thanks to a new EPD creation process for Wood Wool insulation solutions, Knauf Insulation is better able to respond to individual customer requirements.

New EPD’s for Heraklith

Transparent product sustainability

EPDs provide objective, data-based, and standardized information about the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle—from raw material extraction to disposal. Knauf Insulation has now updated the general Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for Heraklith® Wood Wool single and multi-layer panels with the latest data from production, thereby highlighting impressive progress in avoiding CO2 emissions.

Fewer emissions

A comparison of the data between the old and new EPDs showed, for example, that the Tektalan SmartTec underground car park insulation panel with a Rock Mineral Wool insulation core produces a full 31% less CO2 emissions during manufacture, transport, and disposal. Reasons for this positive development include changes in the binder formulation and more energy-efficient production processes.

In the new EPDs, we are making our efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of our Wood Wool products visible and now also available to our customers.

New EPD process

To create environmental product declarations, Knauf Insulation now also uses a process for Heraklith® Wood Wool products that has been successfully used for several years to create EPDs for Knauf Insulation Glass and Rock Mineral Wool insulation materials. This enables the insulation specialist to better respond to customer requirements and create customized EPDs for specific projects.

Available now

The updated, general EPDs for Heraklith® Wood Wool products are now available in our certificates section and of course on the knauf.com website and can be used, for example, for the life cycle assessment of buildings and evaluations within the framework of certification programs.
