Major upgrade in Zalaegerszeg plant

Heraklith has recently completed a major upgrade of its wood wool plant in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary with the installation of a new state-of-the-art dryer. This equipment comes to replace the one that had been operating since the startup of the line.

“It is more than simply replacing an old piece of equipment with a new one” said plant manager Robert Smalekker during the official start-up event held in the plant on April 6. “We have worked with the Heraklith Technical Department and the engineering company to optimize heat distribution and air flows inside the dryer, thus ensuring we can always achieve the optimal level of drying for all our products” he adds.

Heraklith’s plant in Zalaegerszeg manufactures a broad range of homogeneous wood wool boards with white and grey cement, as well as the leading two-layer products Tektalan – which includes a core made of rock mineral wool – and Heratekta – with an EPS core sandwiched between two wood wool layers. Moreover, the plant’s converting department manufactures L- and U-shaped elements for selected applications in residential buildings.

“Knauf Insulation has carried out selective investments addressing the main bottlenecks in the Zalaegerszeg plant and upgrading its manufacturing capabilities, always with the safety of the operators in mind. The plant is very different today to what it was ten years ago and we’re looking forward to its continued success in the coming years“, remarked David Ducarme, Knauf Insulation Group Chief Operating Officer.
